How to Think and Grow Rich

It gets difficult for us sometimes to grasp a simple truth that all our problems like impoverishment, debt, ill health, failing relationships, etc. has its roots in our thinking. Simply by changing our thoughts, we can take full control and change our life into what we exactly want them to be.“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” is a famous quote found in Napoleon Hill’s classic book Think and Grow Rich. This article presents a summary of the philosophy of the book with practical steps that will elevate your thinking into attracting as much money as you desire. Let’s learn how to think and grow rich.

First Step

There is a foundational step that you must begin with, to understand the philosophy of thinking and growing rich. Take a blank paper card and follow these steps precisely, and decisively:

a) Decide upon the exact amount of money you wish to accumulate, e.g. “$ 1,000,000”

b) Think of a service that you will provide in exchange for the money, e.g. “Referring affiliate programs”

c) Decide an exact date in the future when you wish to have possession of the money, e.g. October 20th, 2017

d) Think of a definite plan for carrying out your desire, e.g. “Selling two $3,000 priced paper-cardproducts every day”

e) Write out a clear and concise statement with information derived from points (a), (b), (c)
and (d). Begin your statement by expressing gratitude, e.g. “I am so happy and thankful now that I have in my possession $1,000,000. I do this by referring affiliate programs and
selling two units every day with ….”

f) Read this goal card aloud every day before retiring at night and upon waking up in the morning.

That’s it! With constant repetition, you will slowly convince your subconscious mind that this is, in fact, real, and you will start taking actions (conscious actions) to make the plan work. Your subconscious will take care that miraculous things will happen that would help you achieve your goal that is written on your goal card.

The Carnegie Formula

Your goal card will lay a rock solid foundation for your success. However, you must develop consistent thinking patterns to grow rich and keep attracting abundance. To obtain any amount of money at a predefined time, you must:

i. Have a burning desire to obtain the money. Take your first step and make a goal card.

ii. Have full faith that you will achieve the money in the time you have defined to achieve it. Believe it!

iii. Read your goal card every day before retiring at night and upon waking in the morning. While reading you must be in the feeling of already having the possession of the money. As a matter of fact, you can feel that feeling all day long!

iv. Study as much as you can, related to your field. Find specialized knowledge from books, magazines, journals, websites, videos, etc that will help you grow your knowledge about the products and services of your respective industry.

v. Your mind has a workshop called imagination. Use it to build the exact picture(s) of your dream(s). The clearer the picture, the greater the feelings and greater feelings will attract the good that you desire faster.

vi. Develop leadership qualities through organized planning. While working with your goal card you will get hunches at times. These hunches will prompt you to take specific actions. Don’t delay. Trust your intuition and master the details of the process of attaining your goal.

vii. As soon as you get informational hunches, arrive at a definite decision and don’t change it. Once you’ve made a decision, stick to it.

viii. Develop persistence as it helps in dealing with resistance that you will doubtfully meet along the way as you start taking action towards your goal.

ix. Associate with like–minded people and form a Master Mind group. All members of the Mater Mind group will help each other in attaining their individual goals, including spiritual upliftment.

x. Sex is the strongest of all emotions. Transmute it into developing impressive ideas rather than giving it a physical outlet.

xi. Plant voluntarily, any idea in your subconscious mind and it will always help you in manifesting its physical equivalent.

xii. Your brain can be compared to a sending and receiving station of thought vibrations. Whatever vibrations you are emitting, you will get its equivalent in return. Happiness will bring more happiness while sadness will bring more sadness.

xiii. The sixth sense is a guiding light that we all possess but never realize its powers. By mastering the above twelve principles, you will always be guided in meeting the right person at the right place at the right time for the complete manifestation of all your goals.

The steps given above are collectively known as ‘The Carnegie Formula’ and are the heart of the philosophy of how to think and grow rich. You must not permit any alibis while following this philosophy and neither should be affected by negative emotions and fear.

The 7 Negative Emotions & The 6 Ghosts of Fear

While changing your thinking patterns, you might be surmounted by stumbling blocks such as negative emotions and fear. Remember that you have the power to change anything, including transmuting your negative emotions and fear into positive emotions and confidence.

Hill points out seven negative emotions, namely: fear, jealousy, hatred, revenge, greed, superstition and anger. Take a self-inventory and see if any of these feelings are residing in your mind. When you encounter a negative emotion, take control of your mind and replace them with any of the seven positive emotions like desire, faith, love, sex, enthusiasm, romance or hope.

Make sure to also eliminate the six ghosts of fear of poverty, criticism, ill health, loss of a loved one, old age and death. We are already born rich enough to become extremely wealthy, be appreciated, enjoy vibrant health and feel young always no matter what our chronical age is. Death must never be seen in a bad light as it is just a transition of life. It exists inevitably throughout nature, and therefore it must be for our good.

One of my mentors, Bob Proctor, has been reading a few portions of “Think and Grow Rich” every day, for the last five decades, and he recommends everyone to do the same. After trying this myself I can say that reading Think and Grow Rich every day will keep expanding your awareness to a level where you will set a goal for yourself and achieve it in the time you’ve specified yourself. Isn’t that exactly what we humans have been created for?

These are some really positive points that you have mentioned here and since I have always tried tog et rich, I think this post totally makes sense to me.
It is really difficult sometimes to let go of the negativity since you are scared of failing and you just get covered with self-doubt, what do you suggest one should do in such situations?

That’s an excellent question. Keeping a positive mindset is a habit. One we usually don’t learn or get taught since most of the people around us are simply not aware that its a habit.

The best way I found to change a negative vibration to a positive one is to give thanks.

You can do that by either think of the good things you have right now in your life and feel genuinely grateful for them, or you can take the thing that causes you to feel bad and try and find the positive things about it. There is no such thing as a negative without a positive, so there has to be something positive.

Either way that works for you, just remember to FEEL grateful and express that gratitude in words or other action (writing singing, whatever you feel like! 🙂 )

Gratitude has the capacity of changing our mindset in such a quick way that you wouldn’t believe unless you try 🙂

      My pleasure!

  3. With this you come to realise how powerful the mind is, and what you can achieve when you apply yourself. Once you get the right positive mental attitude, you feel like you can do anything.

The key is to blocking out the negative thoughts as they pull you down and wear you down, but it’s recognising when you have them. Sometimes we have negative thoughts and we are not even aware of it, and they will keep coming back until you make a conscious effort to deal with them.

The process of positive affirmation is quite amazing, when you are reaffirming your goals daily, your mind may not believe it at the time, but as you say with constant repetition it will, good post.

Another option to deal with negative thoughts is just stop thinking them. However that’s easier said than done.
Focusing on what we want instead of what we don’t want (the negative) is such a simple concept, but most of us have been trained for years to emphasize the negative in our lives. And the more we focus on the negative, the more we create it in our lives.

This is a tough cycle to break, but with practice, it gets easier over time.

  4. Hi Ido,

Thank you so much for putting this in concise format! I have the book but I never seems to get to it! I’ve also been reading up on books on the law of attraction and they share the same principles and aside from Bob Proctor, I love the teaching of Jack Canfield. My dream to meet him in person!

I love your page & I think more people should be convinced of this, for a start my mom! She’s still not convinced projecting “lack” in her life…sigh..,

Thank you very much for the kind words.

I’m an avid follower of Jack Canfield myself. If you like these two people’s teachings, then someone else that you might want to follow is Mary Morrissey which also has a lot to say, but I think she looks at the subject of fulfillment, and the law of attraction from a different angle.

In regards to your mother, we can’t change people, we can only explain, and share our experiences and hope that the people who need it the most will be inspired to take action for themselves. The best help we can offer is by way of example. Don’t let other people’s beliefs influence you. The only power other people have on us is the power we give them.

  5. Hi Ido,

Very interesting with all the different thought processes. I particularly like the Carnegie Formula. Andrew Carnegie was born in my home country (Scotland) in the old capital Dunfermline. Not sure when he actually went to the States but he was one of the richest men at that time. I think getting rich is also down to a lot of effort, don’t you think? There’s nothing free in this World.

I totally agree that getting anything in life requires us to take actions. Nothing will come to us if just wish it would come. The thing most people miss in that respect is that even if someone’s working and still don’t get the results he wishes, that only means that he still hasn’t learned how to take the right actions that would give him the results he wants. Most people try and give up after a certain time. If people only understood the process of creation and achievement, I’m sure we would see people try harder, understanding, that they will eventually have what they desire.

    Hey there Ido,

I’m quite a fan of Dale Carnegie so I really enjoyed your post on the principals of think and grow rich.

That said, I’ve never though about reading this book on a daily basis. This can be a great idea to keep yourself up on the whirlwind of life.

    Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the kind words.

One of the best ways to learn is by repetition. The more you read the book. the more you see the depth in it.

The more you repeat the more you understand. And the more you understand, the principals become much more clear, and easier to live by.

And that can just change your life completely.
